Pizza oven
(Hobby project) - I love to build stuff. I also love food and cooking. So I decided to build my own wood-fired pizza oven. This family project was planned to last for a summer but took a little longer than expected - nearly two years… As you see, it still needs some final touches. But hey it works! The pizzas are delicious.
Testing the setup before we start building the dome. The circular bottom stone is a Neapolitan stone called biscotto, which is supposed to transfer just the right amount of heat from the fire 🔥
Bricks all the way from Napoli. Soaked in water before building so the mortar does not dry too fast.
Making a mold for the opening of the oven.
Here we go. The bottom shape and the opening are ready, time to build the dome.
The oven was filled with wet sand to create the right shape for the dome and support the bricks when building.
Then we covered it in wet newspaper to avoid the sand sticking to the mortar.
Time to empty the sand! Everything is later going to be covered with insulation and plaster for the final shape.
Inside of the dome. The paper will burn away with the first fire.
Leftover insulation from the house was used to cover the dome. It will be covered in mortar and plaster for the final look. But trying the oven and perfecting pizzas are more fun 🤩
Hot enough for pizza, perfect! About 400c.
First pizza in the making.
Yummy 😋 Bon apetit!
